How to choose a mattress: Your guide to buying a suitable mattress

A mattress should be a safe haven to sleep at the end of a long day and provide you with the ultimate in comfort through the night. But to get a good night's sleep, you must get the right mattress.

If you are looking for a new mattress on the market and wondering how to choose the perfect one for you, Fumco is here to help.

In this ultimate mattress buying guide, we'll teach you how to choose a mattress that best suits your unique sleeping needs. We cover the most important factors to consider when buying a mattress, from budget to mattress requirements.

  1. Determine the appropriate budget

The average Saudi spends nearly 36 years lying in their bed, so the investment in a good mattress is well worth it.

Before embarking on your journey to choosing the perfect mattress, it is important that you first consider how much you are willing to spend on a new mattress. Keep in mind that you usually spend most of the time each day on your mattress. In fact, research shows that over the course of a lifetime, the average Saudi spends an estimated 36 years lying in bed. For this reason, buying a mattress that will provide you with a good night's sleep is worth it.

While mattresses are not very expensive, they can range from 900 riyals to 7000 riyals. And of course the price depends greatly on the type of mattress and the size you need:

  • Fumco Basic Group: Prices in this group range from 900 riyals to 2000 riyals
  • Fumco Premium Group: Prices in this group range from 2500 riyals to 3350 riyals
  • Fumco Hybrid Group: Prices in this group range from 4,200 riyals to 7,000 riyals

At Vomeco, you can find an affordable mattress with excellent support for as low as 900 riyals or choose a luxury mattress that will suit all your sleeping needs for under 3000 riyals. We manufacture both foam and hybrid mattresses so you can choose what suits you best.

2. Choose the size of the mattress

You may be asking yourself, "What kind of mattress do I need?" If you live in a particularly small space, it may be best to choose a smaller size, such as a twin mattress or a full mattress. Although if you have room to stretch out, a queen or king size mattress may be more suitable for your needs.

Let's review a quick breakdown of the five mattress sizes available from Fumco:

  • Twin - Twin

Width: 120cm x Length: 200cm Mattresses in this size are best for toddlers, teenagers, or anyone under 180cm tall.

  • Twin XL - Twin XL

Width: 140 cm, Length: 200 cm. Mattresses of this size may be more suitable for teenagers or those who are growing more than others.

Size fits: adults with limited space or teens

  • Doubles - Full

Width: 160 cm and Length: 200 cm. Mattresses in this size are suitable for individuals or couples looking for compact comfort.

SIZE FITS: Single sleepers, couples, or for a guest room

  • Queen

Width: 180cm, Length: 200cm, one of the best bed sizes for couples, this standard mattress size is perfect for a master bedroom or guest bedroom, so it's a great investment if you have the extra space.

SIZE FITS: Couples or adults who just want some extra room

  • King - King

Width: 200cm x Length: 200cm For maximum space and supreme comfort, these mattresses are great for couples who want a little extra space. Or parents with a few children who have nightmares who crawl into their bed at night.

SIZE FITS: Couples who like extra space while sleeping or have pets or kids to sleep with.

3. Evaluate the thickness of the mattress

Contrary to the mattress myth, the thickness of a mattress doesn't determine the level of comfort — it does affect how it's designed. The thickness of the mattress plays a huge role in the cost as well.

Since thicker mattresses require more material, they are automatically more expensive than thinner alternatives. Most often, mattresses consist of at least two layers. However, higher quality mattresses often have an intentional design and may have four or more layers.

So how does one measure the best thickness for their sleep needs? Good

Thicknesses for mattresses are divided into three categories:

  • Thick or Deep Mattresses - 40 cm: These mattresses are very deep and are often considered a luxury option. Our more luxurious mattresses such as the Hybrid range lie within the deep profile. All mattresses in this category are designed with unique comfort layers consisting of different materials that increase the mattress's durability, support, and comfort.

  • Medium or Standard Mattresses - 20cm to 35cm: These mattresses are lush, supportive and generally suitable for all types of sleepers.

  • Low Mattresses - Less Than 20cm: Realistically, mattress buyers shouldn't buy a mattress less than 20cm thick - they have too little design capabilities to provide adequate support and pressure relief. Side sleepers usually sink about 12 cm into the mattress, which means a 20 cm mattress is not suitable. Low rise mattresses may work for younger children who may not sink into the mattress as much or for short term use in guest rooms. However, low-volume mattresses are not ideal for long-term comfort.
